I Don't Have Time

What I really mean is... It's not a priority right now...

You read that right. Maybe you should read that again.

How many times have you said, “I wish I had more time”?

To work out.

To take a yoga class.

To meditate.

To rest.

To finally do that thing your soul keeps nudging you toward.

I hear this often, especially when talking to students about their yoga practice. They want to show up more. They wish they could prioritize their well-being. But more often than not, what I hear behind the words is:

“It’s not a priority right now.”

I know that might sound harsh—but hear me out. I say this with so much love and compassion because I’ve been there, too. More times than I can count. And if we’re honest, most of us have. We all wear a hundred hats. We’re caregivers, students, career builders, dreamers, doers, healers. Some of us are trying to do it all—and let’s be real, it feels like we’re juggling a million balls in the air with no pause button.

It doesn’t matter what stage of life you’re in—there will always be reasons to say “I don’t have time.” But what if we shifted the way we speak about time, and instead took ownership of what we choose to prioritize?

What If You Said, “It’s Not a Priority Right Now”?

Try it on the next time you say “I don’t have time for yoga” or “I don’t have time for rest.”Say: “It’s not a priority right now.”How does that feel in your body? In your heart?

Sometimes it stings, right? Because deep down, we do want to prioritize those things. We just haven’t made space for them yet. We haven’t owned that we get to choose what matters most to us—each and every day.

Start by Reclaiming Your Priorities

Here’s what I invite you to do:Take out a journal. Make some tea. Give yourself 15 quiet minutes to just be with yourself. Ask:

  • What are the things I want to create, experience, or invite into my life?

  • What dreams have I shelved because I “didn’t have time”?

  • What practices or rituals light me up and make me feel whole?

Write it all down—big, wild dreams and simple joys alike. Let it all come through without judgment.

Then pick one. Just one thing that your heart pulls you toward. It doesn’t have to be the “most important” or “most urgent”—just the one you feel called to begin with.

Create a Gentle Plan

Take that one thing and work backwards. What small steps can you take today, this week, this month? What support do you need? What can you let go of to make room?

When we name our priorities and align our actions with them, something beautiful begins to happen: we feel more present. More purposeful. More embodied. We stop waiting for “more time” and start making space for what matters.

From I Wish to I Am

Instead of saying “I wish I could take more yoga,” you begin to say, “Yoga is part of how I care for myself.”

Instead of “I wish I had time to rest,” you say, “Rest is a priority because I matter.”

And the more you do this—intentionally, lovingly, consistently—the more your life becomes a reflection of your soul’s priorities.

You Are Worth the Time

Let this be your reminder: You don’t have to earn rest. You don’t need permission to take care of your body, your energy, your heart.

You are worthy of the space you take up, of the dreams you hold, of the practices that bring you home to yourself.

Time is not something to chase. It’s something we choose.Let this be the moment you choose yourself.

Journal Prompt:

Where in your life are you saying, “I don’t have time,” and what shifts when you say, “It’s not a priority right now”?

With Love,

Steph
